- Fra nettsidene til St. Olaf College, English Department News. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------- Professor Emerita Marie Malmin Meyer, 1898-2001 Marie Malmin Meyer, Professor Emerita of English, died March 3 at the Northfield Retirement Center. She was 102 years old, strong in mind and spirit to the end. Marie Meyer was a member of the St. Olaf faculty and the Department of English for 45 years, 1923-1968. She was the first woman professor in the department, the first chairwoman of the department, the first chairwoman of the Division of Language and Literatures, and probably the first chairwoman of CEPC, on which she served for about 25 years. Marie was a formidable person, a challenging colleague, a dedicated teacher, and a superb cook especially of Norwegian delicacies. Marie taught Shakespeare for 25 years, plus world literature, freshman English, and the English literature survey. She was one of the first recipients of a Fulbright Award for faculty members at St. Olaf College. The classroom in Rolvaag Library 421, was dedicated in her honor; take look at her pictures and the plaque. She served St. Olaf College well. --Lowell Johnson, Professor Emeritus
